Bits and Pieces

New or Vintage?
You tell me - Nicole Kidman is a vintage fan and has a vintage collection.
So is this dress she wore last night real or vintage?

Anne Hathaway wore this gold sequined Vivianne Westwood dress a day or two ago.

Do you like?

Vivienne is a true legend - she opened her first shop back in 1969 with Malcolm McLaren, manager of the Sex Pistols. She is one hell of a woman too - one day I am going to write a long blog post on her. She was (and still is) focused on street culture and fashion WAYYYYY before it was even a marketing term. She is also has the odd privilege of being one of the only designers whose vintage pieces have been faked en masse and to great profit. Like a big clothing roll out of fake Louis Vuittons. Read this and have something cool to say at your next cocktail party.

The silhouette Anne is wearing is all classic Vivienne - some of you will hate it - but her fans love it. When you wear a Westwood dress you KNOW you are wearing a Westwood dress. Why fix what isn't broken?

One of our fave vintage girls - Nicole Ritchie is in London to launch her new line Winter Kate, wearing a chiffon dress form her line paired with opaque tights and a hat. Winter Kate is a full line of apparel and is described as having a "vintage yet classic aesthetic. The collection is inspired by timeless prints and shapes, beautiful paisley and florals"
Jump here to peek at bits of it on her website.
Like Kate Moss, it seems Nicole has taken to going through her personal collection of vintage treasures for "inspiration".
What do you guys think of this?

Personally, I think all these "vintage inspired" lines are fun, but they if a girl wants to know that she is the only girl who will be wearing a dress in the room - well then, stick to shopping for vintage with moi.

Celebrity Vintage Spot - Rachel Zoe

One of Shrimpton's Favorite vintage girls - Rachel Zoe - posted this pic of herself on her twitter feed. She was in Milan attending the fashion shows and this was a quick pic in-between 2 of them.
She is wearing vintage spotted YSL and looks purrfect!

Grace One - Amber Zero

There is a lot of talk round the web about Amber Rose's pose on the newly renovated Kenye West site where she is posed in little more than a bandeau

BUT what many of you young ones probably do not realize is that this is actually a re-do of a very famous Grace Jones photo

Grace wins that one hands down. She is like a fabulous sculpture.

Sometimes its best not to try to improve on perfection

Pretties for today

A Slew Of Gorgeous Clients!

Today is already a fabulous day because I get to show off some of my gorgeous Shrimpton Couture clients! I have said before that my clothes go off into the world and at the invitation of their new owners and girls, that they get the privilege of leading quite exciting lives!

Today's triple play of beautiful clients proves that theory in spades!

This little spotted 1950s faux fur coat attended the 2010 NYC Fashion Week and garnered its new owner a ton of compliments - and you can easily see why here:

That is "Princess Poochie", along with the gorgeous author of the blog Dream Sequins, attending a meet-up arranged by Deanne.

The Princess
(I love the whole Princess thing and am just using every excuse I can to call her that)
is also a blog author and runs the blog Shoe Daydreams
(guess what topic caused the two of us to "meet" on twitter?)

Both girls are on twitter so if you want to follow them - click here and here
______________

Judy, of Atlantis Home fame, chose to wear her Shrimpton Couture Malcolm Starr dress when she spoke at the Chictopia10 Summit in New York during the 2010 Fashion Week. I have featured her here before and she also showed this dress off on her blog. I love that she wore this dress to this event. It's so easy to try to "out-do" everyone during fashion events by wearing the latest and greatest, so to wear vintage, and to wear in in such an elegant, grown-up fantastic kind of way, with just the right amount of chic, proves that you don't have to be bound by the current trend in order to look effortlessly fabulous!
One can only say....
Bravo Judy!

Judy's daughter Jane is the wonder girl behind the insanely popular Sea of Shoes blog -
that is where I scooped this shot from - thank you!

And it is with a certain amount of sentimentality that I share this last set of pictures. You see I bought this 1950s full sequined checked pink & cherry gown years and years ago. In fact, I do believe it was one of the very first more"formal" pieces I ever bought. I never wore it - not even once, yet it followed me through a million moves as I landed here and there in my travels. I just could not give it up, even though it did not suit me at all. I always felt it had some little bit of magic and was waiting for "something". It always made me think of glamorous, fabulous girls who would wear it to parties and then end up barefoot in the park in the wee hours of the morning in it.

Silly, I know.

I finally deemed this last year, that it was time for it to find its proper girl. A girl who would give it the chance to have its proper adventures, and its proper glamorous place, in some lucky girl's life.

So you cannot even begin to imagine my pleasure when Lucinda sent me these shots.

She wore that fabulous checked sequined dress to High Tea on the night of the Sydney Festival. She paired it with a fantastic Pierre Cardin pendant that she wore in memory of her father, Peter who she says was a Leo.

I LOVE the juxtaposition of the 1950s extremely girlie old Hollywood piece, paired with the edgier, mod, Cardin piece. This was a stroke of styling genius as its not an obvious choice but once you see it you want to do a version of it on your own.

All of these photos where taken by her friend Hamish Ta Me, a well known Australian Vogue photographer who also likes to do street photography - and the girl in the blue is Lucinda's & Hamish's friend Lucy Qian, who is a model and actress in Australia.
Lucinda styled Lucy for this event.

Lucinda also sent me these photos of Festival night, taken by Hamish.

I think my lovely little checked dress that I carted around for all those years has found exactly the right girl - don't you?

Celebrity Vintage Spot - MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL

Maggie rocks a vintage YSL dress.
Love the dress - can't say I love those shoes paired with it
I would have loved to see something lighter and strappier.
Do you agree?

Fashion Week SPot - Daphne Guiness

She is insanely fearless and I love her

ANITA QUANSAH JEWELS ARE HERE!

There has been a HUGE update today with the full collection of the new
Jewels by Anita Quansah collection just landing in the shop!

Plus there are some very high end, extremely beautiful and rare vintage pieces just listed.
It's worth the JUMP

Anita Quansah - The Textile Collection

I will be launching a new Jewelery line from Anita very shortly
(some pieces from it are in the spring issue of German Vogue!)

In the meantime - I thought it time to give her in-shop boutique a little make-over and have re-shot the entire current collection so you can really see how fabulous these dresses and tops are! I also worked with Anita to re-position them to let my clients get them at the best possible pricing! So if you had your eye on a piece I would hop on over and see its new price - you just might decide to snatch your favorite up real quick before its gone! These are the perfect fresh breathe of air for this new season. Each is an original and will not be reproduced.

The applique work on these is made entirely from recycled fabrics which Anita breaks down and then reconstitutes (by HAND) into fantastical, whimsical designs woven right into the fabric. Look close and you will see fields of roses and florals. Not a bad end to thrown away clothing!

Anita has worked with the great Christian LaCroix, DKNY and Diane Von Furstenberg (to name but a few) and you can see why!

Enjoy!

Pretty pretty pretty

The re-photo project continues!

Today's re-photoed items include
a fantastic re-worked RSVP flapper dress,
an original turn of the century hand embroidered gown and
an original RSVP design made from vintage fabric remnants!
