Gorgeous Client Post - Elena of Fabulous Finds!

One of my mostest favouritest girls and clients has to be Elena - she is just straight out "good people" know what I mean? She is also wickedly funny and writes a great blog. She is also a bit of a vintage coat addict (you know I am not telling anything here but the truth Elena)

She has a few Shrimpton Couture pieces in her closet by now and I was pleased as punch to get an email from her with a picture to share!

The coat is an lightweight 1960s gold thread brocade and I adore how she has made it day-time perfect by pairing it with creams. This is a piece most people would have let sit in their closets, reserved as a topper for an evening ensemble and instead Elena let it see some sunshine. It's a great styling tip and she looks smashing!

Speaking of Ainsely....

I also should share this - how many people do you know that actually make it to living doll status? Well frontrowmag.com bestowed that honor on our Ainsley here.

Obviously due to her tremendously good taste in vintage clothes......
recognize any Shrimpton Couture pieces hmmmm?

Gorgeous Client Post - Ainsley Kerr!

A few weeks ago my friend and sometimes Shrimpton Couture model extraordinaire, Ainsley Kerr, asked me to help her dress for some events in and around Toronto Fashion week. So, I made her promise to ply me with drinks and gossip in return and loaded the vintage-mobile with frocks and fancies.

One of the dresses she chose was a stunning 1970's beaded gown from Victoria Royal.
Here she in in it with a vintage fur and on the arm of designer, Kenneth Cole.

Do my dresses have great lives or what?

Cinderella Sale on NOW! ENDS tonight at Midnight

Shrimpton Couture is excited to introduce CINDERELLA SALES!

These will be a impromptu in-shop "Pop Up", done in the most couture kind of way!

Sometimes these three day events will be your the last chance to grab items at super low prices before they will leave the site forever, while other events will focus on specific designers, themes or decades; mini-capsule collections that will be chock full of pieces that you have never seen before and that will not stay on the site afterwards!

How would you like an event that had a dozen, never seen before, Ossie Clark dresses in it for example, or one that focused on the great American designers of the 1950s?
Yep that is the type of stuff to come!

Midnight til midnight, three days only

Our inaugural event features two extraordinary designers
that I LOVE having here at Shrimpton Couture.

The Glamourai whose GlamourWraps, jewels & baubles rival no other
and
RSVP, who is a master at re-constructing and reviving glamorous pieces from days past.

Some of the baubles & frocks featured in this event will be removed from the site forever once the event ends, making this your last chance to snag your favorite pieces!

JUMP to it here

PS The events will NOT follow a specific schedule but they WILL be announced 24 hours prior to each one's start time by email- sign up for notification here

Gorgeous Client Post - Jill of Stella's Roar

Gorgeous Jill, author of the blog Stella's Roar is a long time client so I was very pleased when she decided to buy this fabulous neck-piece from Anita Quansah. I had just borrowed this a few days before to wear the Halston event (scroll down to see the blurry pic) and was getting rather attached to it. When that happens I always feel a little better about sending something off to someone I know will get the "groove" of a piece. I love how Jill styled it - don't you? These long necklaces are rapidly becoming my favorite new silhouette for the summer. Take a dress, throw one of these on and add shoes and you have instant glamour with three easy pieces! Check out Jill's blog here and more of Anita's stunning collection here

PS. Jill recently got married - say congrats peeps!

Hi- I found you on twitter , love your site! Do you have a a favorite pc of which you will never part with ?

Yes! The dress I wore the first time I went put with My Guy. It's not a special label but it's gorgeous and I live it beyond belief! That's the part about vintage that always gets me - sometimes it's not the label or the actual dress- it's the memory!

Ask me anything

I've inherited a fur in the process of being reworked. It is basically a coat, collar and cuffs (no sleeves, lining was supposed to snap into something else, it seems). Is there a furrier in the GTA that you could suggest to alter/finish it?Thanks!

Shoot that's a tough one. I actually do not, however maybe one of my readers could suggest one? I know there are so many great ones in the fashion district too!!

Look who loves vintage

Am in the car on the way to an estate sale (wish me good treasure finding luck) and am reading Elle UK. Came acroos this article about Natalie Imbruglia. Seems like she is a vintage loving girl. That automatically makes me a fan!

Since I JUST uploaded a new app to my Iphone so I cam blog on the go and try to blog more often, I thought this an excellent inaugral mobile blog post to share!

Come find me Natalie - let's make you not only a official superstar, but a Shrimpton girl too!

Looking gorgeous in a 1930s gown!

I just somehow lost two questions - one about fortuny boxes and one about storing furs - please re-ask!

Please re-ask :)

Ask me anything

how do you store your vintage coats/jackets...specifically those with fur collars?

Hello Elena! I am actually pretty lucky - I have a cold cellar here so throw a rack down there in the summer and anything with fur or feathers goes there. You can have them professionally stored of course but for a fee. At worst hang them out of direct sunlight in a cool place and with room enough so the fur is not crushed. It is really best to get as cool temperatures as possible so if you really love it pay the bit to have it stored properly. and the best tip I can give - have it cleaned before storing! This will keep your coats fresh and let them have a longer life. UNLESS your coats are really old (like 20s or earlier) Then find a really good cleaner, have them fill out a few questionnaires, get a dozen references and then let me interrogate them before you trust them xoxox

Just found your blog. Where did you get the info about the Fortuny boxes (5.19.2008?) Do you know the exact address of the original Fortuny shop in London? Thanks. nkriplen@ameritech.net

hi! And welcome! I don't recall the exact source from back then - sorry! But I do know the original shop address in New York, well at least the one on mist boxes - it was not A Fortuny shop per say but the shop to buy Fortuny in NYC - 509 Madison Avenue. Oh and if you have a bunch of Fortuny's in boxes - please get in touch LOL. I just listed a Fortuny too - go peek :)

Spotted - Dita Von Teese

I could not resist posting this picture of Dita Von Teese in Las Vegas on her recent book promo (her book is aptly called Striptease) in this pretty toile print cotton frock.
It looks vintage to me, though Dita has been known to wear modern pieces cut to look just like their older counter parts.

What do you think?
Modern or Vintage?

_______________________

Update:

Turns out its sort of neither of the above
I asked Dita through her Twitter account which it was and she said:

@ShrimptonCoutur Early 1990's Vivienne Westwood...

So technically its not vintage, nor new
Its what I like to call - Future Vintage!

(Thank you for the reply Dita! We all love you here!)

Garance Dore Posts Vintage Spots Too

I was thrilled to see this fabulous picture over at the Garance Dore blog. The dress is a vintage Azzedine Alaia and I think what I love best about it is that its an obvious reference from a 1950s frock and I bet if you found that 1950s frock you would see a bit of a modified reference from an Edwardian piece. All bundled up and presented on one of the hottest blogs on the internet today whose focus is to showcase fabulous modern, women. Yet another reason why a girl in vintage is almost invariably a more interesting girl in many, many ways...xoxoxoxo

New Glamourai Jewels - Just IN!

Kelly (the designer behind The Glamourai line) has really out done herself with the latest assortment of jewels that have just arrived in shop!

Made form a combination of vintage baubles & semi-precious stonery, these jewels and fantasy earrings are some of her best work yet!
Each is one of a kind and each is completely hand made, making them little works of art!

The inspiration behind this collection?
Kelly has this to say:

"this collection perfectly embodies the seamless unification of vintage & modern elements that i endeavor for in my work. they evoke old world souks & spice routes, while injecting a shot of modern moxie into whatever they're worn with. it was so hard to resist keeping every single piece!"
