Huge Sale and A Mini Contest!!!!

I have compulsively decided that I will be running a all new ANNUAL event once a year (hence the annual part) to clean out the racks and get the site ready for new stock for the new year. ALL the designers that work with vintage will be taking part and pretty much every vintage item on the site will be marked down. This is NOT a 10% off event - this is a almost every item is 20-60 and even a few are 70% off event! I shit you not. My vintage, couture and the reworked vintage need to get to their new girls and I have way too much new stuff to list and I don't want the site to get too bogged down.

Now everything is in place and I just need a NAME for the event. I figure that you are far more brighter and creative them I am so I have decided to run a mini contest for today only. Leave your name suggestions in the comments and if your name is the winner I will give you a $100 Gift card to use on ANYTHING on the site! You can also facebook your suggestion or tweet it to me but all entries have to come in today and the winner will be announced tomorrow morning!

PS
I created a Sale Archive this week too so when you go cruise through the site you will not have to slog through pages of sold items.

AND

Thank you for all your lovely support this year
I love what I do and its because of all of YOU!

Gorgeous Outfit Alert

I have just listed these two fantastic pieces and I had to photo them together because that is how the original owner often wore them! The coat is Malcolm Starr and the dress is Pat Sandler and they do contrast wonderfully together don't you think? Each is shot through with gold thread and the camera does not come close to picking up the sheen the piece have. Its this same gold thread that acts as a neutral and makes the pieces work together too.
Its when outfits like this come in that a curse my too big curves!

See the Malcolm Starr Coat here
and the Pat Sandler dress here

Its an Ossie Clark day!

I have just listed this spectacular and MINT two piece Ossie Clark suit. Its black moss crepe and piped in bright yellow satin. Its just f*&king fabulous

See it in all its glory here

Shop Talk | Silhouettes and Profiles

The designers behind Silhouettes and Profiles made “The Kira” with leftover metallic lace from an Oscar de la Renta collection.

Since I wear only vintage clothes, I spend a lot of time at Silhouettes and Profiles. The brilliant Irene Tcherniakhovsky has been perfecting my wardrobe there for the last 10 years. Recently I was bringing in a pile of repairs and I noticed this dress on display. Assuming it belonged to a customer, I checked for a label, but Irene told me that she and her co-worker, Anna Drugovahad, designed the dress. It’s called “The Kira” — black lace with a slightly empire waist and a wide grosgrain ribbon that subtly shapes the garment and makes it flattering to every figure. It’s the perfect party dress. It comes in four different fabrics, including a metallic lace left over from an Oscar de la Renta collection, and the quality is on the level of couture. At $500 dollars, “The Kira” is the best dress I have seen in a long time. It almost looks vintage.

GORGEOUS Shrimpton Couture Client Vintage Spot

One of my most favourtisest tasks on this blog is to post pictures from Shrimpton Couture clients in their fabulous Shrimpton finds. I adore knowing my dresses are out there once again living life whilst being worn by their new fabulous owners!

A few weeks ago I sold this dress to Maradene
who I also ended up throwing a trunk show bash for too
earlier the same day that she debuted her find

She sent me these two photos and I am posting this one even though its a bit of a blur
(isn't real life that way too sometimes though?)
Don't you just love this shot with her sister Lisa in the background?

And here is Maradene with her sister and daughter - gorgeous!!

Thank you for sending me these Maradene! You look beautiful in your dress!

I am completely enamoured

I popped over to the Jak & Jil Blog and saw this pictorial on Catherine Baba.

First she is spectacular.
Second she is wearing vintage
Third the pop of red is fantastic
ans forth she magically manages to ditch the red coat - where did it go?
Did she somehow mind melt with me and its on its way to my house at this very moment?
OK probably not but I had to post these to share.

Rumours are aswirling

That it was uber fan Victoria Beckham that purchased the couture Givenchy LBD at yesterday's Audrey Hepburn auction for the bargain price of £60,000. The Chantilly lace cocktail dress was worn by Audrey in How To Steal A Million in 1966.

Personally, my fingers are crossed that it was Victoria that bought the dress. It will suit her to a tee and you know it will be properly stored and cared for. People do not realize the responsibility that comes along with truly great pieces. They have to be stored and cared for and respected. Victoria has the means and the sense to look after it properly. Although if I where her I would be a little annoyed the mask was not part of the deal.
Wouldn't you be?

Much Fun Had by All

Things and life have been a bit of a whirlwind lately.

I jetted off to London to hunt for some new vintage frocks for Shrimpton Couture (watch the site this week for some of those to appear), partook in intimate Trunk show for a client and her friends and have brought a brand new line to Shrimpton Couture called Silhouettes & Profiles - they design drop dead one of a kind gorgeous dresses using vintage fabrics that they source from all corners of the earth.

Shrimpton Couture also made a bit of a splash here and there on the web this week. Wendy B posted about her and I finally meeting in real life (and she is wearing a dress from Shrimpton Couture so that alone is worth the jump over). I lent out some vintage and the last remaining harness from Norwegian Wood for Shrimpton Couture for a photoshoot for Toronto Magazine Eye Weekly (the online version is here but sadly only has the teeniest of photos - I am trying to get more and will update if I do - meanwhile here is the online article). And the Northwest Herald mentions a Glamourai Ring for Shrimpton Couture in its article on "Investing in one Great Piece!"

Tons of beautiful dresses listing this week!

Gorgeous Client Post

Once in a Life Time

From Vogue UK today:

AS FAR as rare and covetable pieces of clothing go, those created by designers including Hubert de Givenchy and Valentino - and then worn by style icon Audrey Hepburn - are among the desirable. Some of the actress' most famous dresses will be auctioned next week in London with 50 per cent of the proceeds going to The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund and Unicef.

There are more than thirty of pieces for sale, dating from the early Fifties to the late Sixties, including clothing, accessories and personal letters written by Hepburn during the period. Also included in the sale is a wedding dress she never wore, made for her marriage to James Hanson - which Hepburn called off weeks before it was set to take place.

Hepburn asked that the dress be given away, "to the most beautiful, poor Italian girl you can find - someone who couldn't ever afford a dress like mine" and the recipient - Amabile Altobella - wore it and kept it in her family until it was tracked down by the family of the dress' creators, the Fontanas, in 2002.

Auction experts predict the sale could raise in excess of £100,000, because authenticated Hepburn pieces so rarely come on to the open market. The pieces are currently part of a touring exhibition in Sotheby's New York and Paris and will be exhibited at La Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade on Pall Mall, London on Sunday December 6 from 12 noon - 5pm before being sold on December 7 and 8 at the same venue.

See www.audreyhepburn.com for more information on the charity. See www.kerrytaylorauctions.com for more information about the sale.
