Shop Talk | Silhouettes and Profiles
Courtesy of Shrimpton Couture
Since I wear only vintage clothes, I spend a lot of time at Silhouettes and Profiles. The brilliant Irene Tcherniakhovsky has been perfecting my wardrobe there for the last 10 years. Recently I was bringing in a pile of repairs and I noticed this dress on display. Assuming it belonged to a customer, I checked for a label, but Irene told me that she and her co-worker, Anna Drugovahad, designed the dress. It’s called “The Kira” — black lace with a slightly empire waist and a wide grosgrain ribbon that subtly shapes the garment and makes it flattering to every figure. It’s the perfect party dress. It comes in four different fabrics, including a metallic lace left over from an Oscar de la Renta collection, and the quality is on the level of couture. At $500 dollars, “The Kira” is the best dress I have seen in a long time. It almost looks vintage.
GORGEOUS Shrimpton Couture Client Vintage Spot
One of my most favourtisest tasks on this blog is to post pictures from Shrimpton Couture clients in their fabulous Shrimpton finds. I adore knowing my dresses are out there once again living life whilst being worn by their new fabulous owners!
who I also ended up throwing a trunk show bash for too
earlier the same day that she debuted her find
She sent me these two photos and I am posting this one even though its a bit of a blur
(isn't real life that way too sometimes though?)
Don't you just love this shot with her sister Lisa in the background?
I am completely enamoured
First she is spectacular.
Second she is wearing vintage
Third the pop of red is fantastic
ans forth she magically manages to ditch the red coat - where did it go?
Did she somehow mind melt with me and its on its way to my house at this very moment?
OK probably not but I had to post these to share.
LOVE
Rumours are aswirling
Personally, my fingers are crossed that it was Victoria that bought the dress. It will suit her to a tee and you know it will be properly stored and cared for. People do not realize the responsibility that comes along with truly great pieces. They have to be stored and cared for and respected. Victoria has the means and the sense to look after it properly. Although if I where her I would be a little annoyed the mask was not part of the deal.
Wouldn't you be?
Much Fun Had by All
Shrimpton Couture also made a bit of a splash here and there on the web this week. Wendy B posted about her and I finally meeting in real life (and she is wearing a dress from Shrimpton Couture so that alone is worth the jump over). I lent out some vintage and the last remaining harness from Norwegian Wood for Shrimpton Couture for a photoshoot for Toronto Magazine Eye Weekly (the online version is here but sadly only has the teeniest of photos - I am trying to get more and will update if I do - meanwhile here is the online article). And the Northwest Herald mentions a Glamourai Ring for Shrimpton Couture in its article on "Investing in one Great Piece!"
Tons of beautiful dresses listing this week!

Once in a Life Time
AS FAR as rare and covetable pieces of clothing go, those created by designers including Hubert de Givenchy and Valentino - and then worn by style icon Audrey Hepburn - are among the desirable. Some of the actress' most famous dresses will be auctioned next week in London with 50 per cent of the proceeds going to The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund and Unicef.
There are more than thirty of pieces for sale, dating from the early Fifties to the late Sixties, including clothing, accessories and personal letters written by Hepburn during the period. Also included in the sale is a wedding dress she never wore, made for her marriage to James Hanson - which Hepburn called off weeks before it was set to take place.
Hepburn asked that the dress be given away, "to the most beautiful, poor Italian girl you can find - someone who couldn't ever afford a dress like mine" and the recipient - Amabile Altobella - wore it and kept it in her family until it was tracked down by the family of the dress' creators, the Fontanas, in 2002.
Auction experts predict the sale could raise in excess of £100,000, because authenticated Hepburn pieces so rarely come on to the open market. The pieces are currently part of a touring exhibition in Sotheby's New York and Paris and will be exhibited at La Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade on Pall Mall, London on Sunday December 6 from 12 noon - 5pm before being sold on December 7 and 8 at the same venue.
See www.audreyhepburn.com for more information on the charity. See www.kerrytaylorauctions.com for more information about the sale.
